1936 – Born in Nikolaev, Ukraine.

1977 - Repatriated to Israel.

Education

1960 - M.S. in Engineering, Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute.

1971 - M.A. State Institute of Cinematography, Moscow.

Professional Experience

1961 – 1966 – Head of the Central Film Department of the Ministry of Shipbuilding. Made 13 scientific films

1966 - 1976 – Film director at the Leningrad Studio of popular Scientific Films. Directed sixteen popular scientific & educational films. Worked also as a cinematographer and screenwriter. Three of his films received first awards at the international film festivals. Two films [one about parapsychology and the other one about the painter Pavel Filonov ] were banned. 4 popular science films: "Blue Bird", "A Struggle with a Madman", "The esthetics of Labor" & "An Unfinished Report" were never shown in the USSR and were destroyed.

1977-1980- Director & cameraman at the " Israel Film Service"

1981-1982- Director & cameraman at the "Educational T.V", as well as at the programme "8 ˝"

1982 - 2001 – Head of Photography Department at the Eretz Israel Museum, Tel-Aviv.

1986-1989 - Lecturer, "Beit Zvi"- School of Theatre & Cinematography, Tel Aviv

1992 - Editing director of the film "The Jews of Odessa".

The film received the First prize at the International Competition "The Jewish Heritage".

1985-2002 – Participated in numerous International photo-exhibitions in France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Austria, the Czech Republic, Romania, Australia, Russia…

Gregory Vinitsky

Was born in Nikolaev (Ukraine) in 1936 to a family of shipbuilding engineers. Following the footsteps of his father enrolled at the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute and graduate in 1960 with M.S. Already in the Institute he became interested in cinematography and shot his first 16 mm films. From 1961 to 1966 served as a Head of Film Department of the Ministry of Shipbuilding and produced thirteen technical and scientific films. At the same time he studied at the State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow and earned M.A. in 1971. From 1966 to 1976 worked as a film director at the Leningrad Studio of Scientific and Educational Films. Directed sixteen scientific and educational films. He also worked as a cinematographer and a scriptwriter. Three of the films made during this period received international prizes. Two (one on parapsychology and the other one on painter Pavel Filonov) were banned. In 1977 left Soviet Union for Israel and settled in Tel-Aviv. From 1982 to 2001 – Head of Photography Department of the Eretz Israel Museum in Tel-Aviv.

The first one-man photography exhibition took place in 1982 in the Artists’ House in Jerusalem. In 1985-2001 participated in numerous international photo-exhibitions in France, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Australia, Thailand, Russia… Won a Bronze Medal at The International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) Exhibition in Spain (1997) and Silver Medal at the FIAP’s Exhibition in Israel (1998).
